CNN’s John King just stopped by the HCRP office to interview Chairman Woodfill regarding a variety of issues including the current special session in Austin.
The Legislature began its second special session yesterday afternoon only lasting an hour before going into recess until July 9th. During that hour the Senate and House assigned the three bills requested by Governor Perry to their committees. Those committees have been meeting today to discuss transportation, juvenile judicial reform and abortion. The House committee hearing on the abortion bill began at 3:30 pm today and will end at midnight after completing 9 hours of testimony from a current list of 1600 citizens. In the previous session, the House committee conducted 12 hours of testimony. No floor votes are expected during this holiday week.
In relation to the abortion debate, we have seen many in the media and the Democrat Party heralding Ft. Worth State Senator Wendy Davis as a hero of abortion rights. This new fame has caused Sen. Davis to reexamine a run for Governor this next year. Liberal polling firm, PPP, released new data on a potential Wendy Davis v. Rick Perry battle and our Governor wins easily by 14 points. Democrats like to impress their abortion friends in New York and California, but they forget the true values of Texans. We are proudly a Pro-Life State and we condemn the protest tactics in Austin yesterday of using children to hold signs with coat hangers as a means of shaming our state. It is the Democrats who continue to be the shameful instigators at the expense of children’s lives.
