Outgoing Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson showed her true feelings this week as she expressed her support for gun restrictions, specifically semi-automatics and standard capacity magazines, which are the most effective tool for defensive purposes.
“We ought to be looking at where the real danger is, like those large clips, I think that does need to be looked at,” Hutchison told CBS’s Face The Nation. “It’s the semi-automatics and those large magazines that can be fired off very quickly. You do have to pull the trigger each time, but it’s very quick.”
Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. The 1994 “assault weapons ban” failed to reduce the average number of victims per gun murder incident or multiple gunshot wound victims.
A University Of Pennsylvania study showed that While gun violence did fall in the 1990s, this was likely due to other factors – “We cannot clearly credit the ban with any of the nation’s recent drop in gun violence. And, indeed, there has been no discernible reduction in the lethality and injuriousness of gun violence.” One reason is that assault weapons were never a huge factor in gun violence to begin with.
The 1994 ban DID successfully drive up prices on the most effective defensive guns and magazines, and infringed on the second amendment right to own and carry arms to defend your families and communities. The true meaning of the second amendment certainly wasn’t for us to have single shot rifles or muskets for squirrel hunting, as many politicians would have you believe.
The truth is that our nation has reduced violent crime by 50% over the last 20 years, and the highly publicised and politicised acts of insane murderers should not be used to strip the rights of millions of other law abiding Americans. Think for yourself and preserve freedom.
Here is a very interesting video on crime statistics that disproves much of what the media and government will tell you.
