Texas Voter ID law – that will most likely be struck down, undeservedly, by a federal court in cahoots with Attorney General Holder – is much in the news. AG Holder, in a speech to the NAACP Convention in Houston, likened requiring voter ID to a poll tax. It may surprise Holder to learn the Texas Poll Tax was introduced by Democrats in 1902 reportedly to suppress vote of blacks and poor white farmers, the latter who voted for populist not Republican candidates.
A little more Texas history…
Democrats claim voter fraud isn’t a problem in Texas. That’s more their opinion than a statement of fact even if they differentiate between voter fraud and election fraud. In 1948 when Texas was a one-party state – with a distinction between “conservative” and “liberal” Democrats – election fraud propelled liberal Democrat, Lyndon Johnson to the U.S. Senate leaving conservative Coke Stevenson home in Texas thanks to a disputed ballot box giving LBJ an 87 vote majority and earning him the sobriquet “Landslide Lyndon”. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Black authored the final decision awarding LBJ the Senate seat. Apparently, while Texas Governor, George W. Bush learned a bit of Texas history that paid off for him in the 2004 presidential election.
Now, modern day Democrats want us to believe – when Texas became a two-party state – Democrats decided to play nice with Republicans and ceased all attempts at election fraud. Although Democrats won’t admit it, they still commit election fraud against fellow Democrats. Does anyone remember Hillary Clinton’s 2008 primary campaign manager producing a video alleging the Obama campaign practiced voter fraud and intimidation?
A “Houston Chronicle” article reported, under AG Holder, DOJ only investigates voter fraud or intimidation when minorities are allegedly defrauded or intimidated. The article stated an attorney pursuing black intimidation of white voters wouldn’t have a successful DOJ career.
Democrats don’t think they commit voting fraud when, at the highest party level, they devise methods to “game the system”. 2008 method: use federal funds to pay ACORN to register voters based on the number of voters registered. ACORN, later discredited, changed its name and is back doing business as usual.
Texas is continually lambasted for having the highest percentage of uninsured; the largest number of Hispanics without valid photo IDs, etc. However, significantly missing are the number and percentage of illegal immigrants who aren’t eligible to vote. Immigration activists and apologists now claim Texas officials should not have access to federal lists of illegal immigrants.
Also, citizens can be disqualified from voting for criminal convictions. The U.S. has the highest prison population of all nations. Texas is a major contributor so many Texans should be disqualified from voting.
Bottom line: Democrats don’t want voter ID laws because it will cost them votes.
Interesting data about U.S. residents who don’t always “follow the rules”…
A few facts gleaned from the Internet indicate U.S. citizens and residents are prone to fraud and cheating. A June 2011 study reported 75-98% of college students surveyed each year admit to cheating during their academic careers. It was 10% in 1940.
At midnight 04/15/1987, 7 million children suddenly disappeared when a new IRS rule required Social Security numbers for each child claimed as a dependent. Those vanishing children represented 10% of all dependent children.
The Insurance Information Institute estimates 10% of property/casualty losses are fraudulent. It’s also estimates 10% of total health care spending – including Medicare – involves fraud.
Given a national propensity for fraud and cheating, do Democrats expect us to believe the U.S. electorate is comprised of 99% (excluding the hated one-percenters Obama claims don’t pay their fair share of taxes) honest voters who never commit voting fraud?
If perhaps 10% of the electorate might cheat, what’s to prevent this scenario: register 20 homeless persons at a shelter; secure their voter registration certificates; on election day, return to the homeless shelter; pick up 20 homeless persons (not necessarily those whose names are on the certificates); bus them to the proper polling location to vote a straight Democrat ticket? With no Voter ID, how can they be challenged?
None so deaf as those that will not hear. None so blind as those that will not see.
